I am 25 years old and have always had a bit of an acne problem but since having my daughter (7 months ago) I have had cystic acne that I cannot clear up. I have seen a dermatologist but nothing is helping. I used to take Minocin as a teen and it worked great but for this it is doing nothing. I am also on birth control used for acne treatment (Diane 35) and 2 creams…Differin and benzoclin. Still…nothing. I don’t seem to get any new acne with it but I have had the same cysts for the last 7 months. I do not want to try Accutane…I will not go there as I have heard the worst of the worst. I’d rather have then acne then take that. If you know of anything else that might help please let me know. Thanks so much.

I have had acne since junior high — I have tried pretty much everything to get rid of it…
when I didn’t pick at it, it would pop on its own and leave scars:(
My boyfriend mentions my acne every time I see him and says he loves me despite it, but I am almost 19 and still have cysts all over etc.
I hardly see anyone at college with acne and although I have applied for twenty work-study jobs(in person), I never got responses…probably because of my looks because I am MUCH more qualified than 99% of the kids here.
My mom said her acne was gone by age 18, and mine is still crazy!!!
And I know I do not have hormonal acne because I don’t have breakouts — I AM ALWAYS BROKEN OUT!!!
My dad has never been in my life, but my mom said he didn’t have acne as an adult.
I feel so ugly and waste hours in the mirror per week merely looking at my blemishes and wondering what other acne treatment I will blow my money on…
I’m thinking i’ll try Zeno.
Anyways…anyone have any ideas why I still have acne?
I had a very stressful childhood and am still stressed because I have to pay for college and still can’t find a job and do NOT want to move back in with my mom and be yelled at constantly:(
Why is my skin even worse than it was when I was twelve and had acne?
Am I just cursed?
Thanks.

And if so, why do hormones break me out even if they don’t make me oily? What is an appropriate treatment? I’ve been told not to dry my skin out but that feels so counter-intuitive?

Also, I have oily skin most of the time. I do use proactive solution, but it doesn’t work that well with my skin anymore. Also, when I was a teen I took acutane for three months and it only got rid of my most severe cystic acne, but I sill have overall breakouts all the time, and I just turned 26. So if you know of a really great product that works, please let me know. Especially the nonprescription methods.

About 8 months ago, we had a death in the family…very stressful and I had a horrible breakout…pimples everywhere on my face, and I’m talking everywhere. I attributed it to stress and eventually they went down but “evolved” into this very strange patch of what I can only assume is cystic acne…sort of like a rash which will not respond to any sort of topical treatment I have tried. I have another patch forming, and also some on my neck along with random “normal” pimples elsewhere. When I wake up in the morning, the patches are noticeable in the morning, but they are “flat” and don’t really hurt. By mid day, they hurt when touched and are more inflamed and bumpy. I can’t get into the dermatologist for another 2 months…any ideas on what could have caused this? I’m pushing 30 and have no history of acne problems ever. Is this hormonal or triggered by an unknown allergy to something….and what will likely be the first treatment for it? I’m not a vain person but I’m pained to admit I am becoming very self conscious about it. So far it hasn’t developed into open sores/pustules etc…

What is Acne Vulgaris? This is a medical term used to describe most cases of acne. It really isn’t as bad as it sounds! Vulgaris doesn’t mean that the acne is vulgar, only that it means that it is common.
Be aware that there are many factors that contribute to acne. First, research indicates a propensity for acne may well be inherited. Parents who had acne in their teenage and young adult years may have children who are likewise prone to having acne in their teen and young adult years.
